Spring and Winter both can hard on our homes in Ottawa, especially the lower levels. The several feet of snow and then the spring rains often accumulate against the foundation of our homes as well as lower levels of our homes. You may notice that your basement is damp and even may have water present. The foundation may have cracked and is allowing water or moisture to seep into the lower levels of the home or basement. When we first were married, we lived in an apartment for about a year. The furniture we had put together during our time together up to the point of moving into the flat was a mishmash of various pieces, none of which matched. For example, we had an old 2 seater sofa that had 2 cushions that belonged to something else, two armchairs, neither of which matched, a coffee table that doubled as a chess board, a kitchen table made of laminex and the three chairs we had scrounged, also none of which matched. But when you are first married, the furniture doesn’t play a huge part in your daily life and the friends that came around for drinks or a meal seem to understand that it’s a marital phase that we all go through. It was just a casual Sunday afternoon BBQ in the backyard with our neighbours and friends from my school days. Gloria and I went to primary and high school together and have stayed close friends for at least 20 years. Her husband Steven had left his job with the government about 6 years ago to start his own business. I think it was a drop shipping warehouse or something like that. Gloria worked in the enterprise as well. They had a son and a daughter who were almost the same age as our two, so they shared a lot of interests with music and movies as well as school subjects.
