Christmas is, without a shadow of a doubt, my favourite time of year. I love hearing carols all-too-early in the shops, the cheesy Christmas adverts, the excuse to splurge on special food and choosing decorations for the tree. Basically, I’m a bigger kid when it comes to Christmas than either of my little girls!

But however much you enjoy Christmas, it does bring with it a lot of stress, and I’m always looking to ways to reduce this. In a way, I guess I’m fine-tuning Christmas! For example, last year, instead of braving the supermarket for our big Christmas shop (present-shopping I love, food-shopping I hate, even when it does come with carols!), I ordered everything online and had it delivered.

As you transition into parenthood, the list of things to learn keeps growing as your world begins its expansion. You start to look at money differently, for every dollar you spend on something for yourself is a dollar that could have gone towards your new family. Your time becomes precious as its going to soon be interspersed with screaming babies, feeding time, cleaning up, and trying to find moments to catch your breath. Everything around you will look like a danger, from the corner of your nightstand to the height of the sofa, and you will be trying to minimize risk at every turn.

Substance abuse is an epidemic around the world that is faced by a large portion of the population. Chances are high that everybody knows at least one person who is an addict, or they at least are connected by one degree of separation. Because drugs and addictive substances are so widely available and people have decided that using substances is an okay way to deal with problems, it’s created a big issue in today’s society. All moms will be familiar with the feeling of looking around your living room, or your kitchen, or even your bedroom, and thinking maybe if I moved the couch to the far end of the room, my kids will have more room to play… but where would I put the ottoman?
